Are first-month promo deals worth it for dedicated servers?

I've seen many providers offering steep first-month discounts, but I wonder if it's just to lure clients into longer-term plans.
Anyone here used such offers and stayed? Can I rely on Hostingsource.com dedicated hosting service? Any reviews?
