Most data centres use power distribution units in the rack. These allow power sockets to be presented into the rack with various outlet types.

The equipment in the rack is connected to the PDUs. Almost all DCs use dual power feeds, so your dedicated server would have two power supplies fed from two separate power lines.

Some data centres allow you to access the PDUs using a management interface to perform actions on the ports, such as turning them off and on.

Finally, any server worth running in a datacentre will have lights-out management, such as Dell’s iDRAC, HPE’s iLO, or Cisco’s CIMC. These all allow a server to be fully power managed.

The most notable difference between Cloud VPS (Virtual Private Servers) and managed and dedicated Cloud Servers are that with VPS hosting, you are sharing the physical resources (CPU, RAM, etc.) while enjoying the freedom of a private server. On the other hand, with a managed dedicated server, no sharing is required because you have the server all to yourself.

Dedicated Server & Managed Hosting / Re: VPS Hosting
« on: June 17, 2022, 06:29:28 AM »
VPS hosting is a service offered by many cloud computing services, as well as other websites across the internet.

VPS stands for Virtual Private Server, and it essentially means that you can rent a portion of a server in a datacentre. This is the reason why, when purchasing a VPS, you can configure how much RAM, CPU cores and storage the server gets.

While you only get a portion of the server, that portion is yours and yours only. Nobody else gets access to that portion of the server, unless of course, you give them access to it.

Alternatively, you could also purchase a Dedicated Server from one of these companies, which allows you to rent out the entire server rather than just a portion of it.

Cloud Web Hosting / Re: What Speed Test solutions do you use?
« on: June 17, 2022, 06:25:58 AM »
There are a lot of applications and web pages offering to test the quality of your internet connection, mostly by performing tests that will show you your download and upload speed, as well as the latency of the line.

Some examples are:

Speedtest by Ookla (this is probably the most famous one)
Internet Speed Test by Netflix
Meteor by OpenSignal (only iOS and Android)
OpenSpeedTest
SpeedOf.Me
nPerf
If you run tests on several of these tools, you may observe significant deviations in the results. Such differences emerge because of several factors: the measurement server location for each tool (near or far away from you), the suitability of the server (e.g. having enough available capacity to serve multiple users at the same time), the exact type of tests performed, brief network fluctuations, or even traffic spikes due to other people watching YouTube or Netflix on your line.

Multiple measurements with time spacing between them should give you a better idea of your line’s performance and flatten temporary network glitches.

For Marketing email campaigns if you using a service like MailChimp, Constant Contact, Drip, ConvertKit, etc, they will track things like opens, clicks, bad addresses, unsubscribes, etc. You can see who opened and who did not open as well and see which links in the email were clicked.

Virtual Private Server (VPS) / Re: How Big VPS Capacity For Blog
« on: May 27, 2022, 10:17:46 AM »
Impossible to answer this question.

Too many different variables here:

What is the VPS running in software?
How many of the traffic is concurrent?
What is the vps hardware?
If you are worried about your website going down because of traffic, these are good problems to have.

Launch your site first, get traffic and figure it out as it comes.

All the best!

Some of the most powerful technical controls in your hybrid cloud toolbox are encryption, automation, orchestration, access control, and endpoint security. Encryption greatly reduces the risk that any readable data would be exposed even if a physical machine is compromised.

Cloud Web Hosting / Re: What is a DDoS incursion?
« on: May 27, 2022, 10:11:21 AM »
A distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack is a malicious attempt to disrupt the normal traffic of a targeted server, service or network by overwhelming the target or its surrounding infrastructure with a flood of Internet traffic.

DDoS attacks achieve effectiveness by utilizing multiple compromised computer systems as sources of attack traffic. Exploited machines can include computers and other networked resources such as IoT devices.

From a high level, a DDoS attack is like an unexpected traffic jam clogging up the highway, preventing regular traffic from arriving at its destination.
